Senior Accountant, Real Estate Investment

Location: Denver, CO 

Position Description: 

A real estate investment management firm is adding a Senior Accountant to their Denver team. The position will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports, projects and information to support the Company’s corporate accounting functions.  This position will be responsible for a variety of corporate accounting processes including cash, debt, fixed assets, joint ventures, general accounting, consolidation accounting, respond to audit requests and various other corporate accounting duties.  This position will also participate in creating and improving processes, policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Position will work closely with the Assistant Controller to assist with preparation and review of monthly and quarterly reconciliations, schedules and reports

  • General corporate accounting including accounting for payroll and personnel expense, office costs, travel and entertainment, professional fees and other corporate costs

  • Interaction with AP department to ensure payments to various vendors are approved and coded appropriately

  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements including elimination accounting

  • Implement process improvement and financial control recommendations

  • Assist with the quarterly reviews and annual audit including overseeing requests and related statuses and preparation of financial analytics and explanations

  • Manage corporate cash accounts, including monthly cash reconciliations and maintenance for all corporate cash accounts.

  • General accounting assistance including preparation of general and standard journal entries, account reconciliations and various other accounting statements, reports and interpretation of results

  • Create and maintain process flow reference and training guides

  • May assist with corporate tax entries

  • Maintenance and calculation of depreciation of corporate fixed assets using our Yardi Software solution, including preparation of journal entries; ensure compliance with appropriate policies

  • Manage and participate in assigned corporate accounting projects and activities on an ad hoc basis  

Required Qualifications/Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Accounting or related field is required.

  • A minimum of three years accounting experience required with working knowledge of GAAP.

  • Real estate accounting experience preferred.

  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office; Yardi software or equivalent experience with enterprise accounting systems.

  • An ambitious, self-motivated, team-oriented individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills who interacts well with others and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment required.

  • Financial statement preparation and review experience preferred.

  • Ability to work autonomously and display sound discretion and decision-making ability.
